Information Blocking Interoperability eBook

January 4, 2021

The 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act) was signed into law in December of 2016. It contained a number of provisions tied to health care innovation, increasing health care research, and more expeditious approval for new drugs and devices. Both the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Information Blocking and the DHHS Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Interoperability Rules, published in the Federal Register on May 1, 2020, are just two of the regulations promulgated under the Cures Act. It is important for healthcare providers to understand how these rules may impact them and what is needed to prepare for the rules.

The primary focus of this eBook will be the impact of both rules on providers and the implications of the Interoperability Rule on payers. It will not address the revised conditions of certification for Health IT Developers of Certified Health IT (CHIT).
