Ponemon Institute Privacy & Security of Healthcare Data Study

The Ponemon Institute recently released the latest version of their Privacy & Security of Healthcare Data Study report. In light of this, we put together an infographic that highlights key statistics, including:

  • Data breaches could be costing the healthcare industry $6.2 billion.
  • 89% of covered entities and 61% of business associates reported having a data breach in the past two years.
  • Criminal attacks caused half of breaches at covered entities, while employee actions caused a large portion of breaches for both covered entities and business associates.
  • Nearly 75% of data breaches at covered entities and half of those at business associates were discovered during an audit or assessment, highlighting the need for these to occur on a regular basis.
