A Security Director's Itinerary For Hacker Summer Camp 2018

July 25, 2018 Mayuri Kumar

"Hacker Summer Camp" is a phrase that hackers use to refer to the week every summer in Las Vegas that hosts Black Hat, BSidesLV, and DEF CON. This year they run August 4-9 (Black Hat), August 7-8 (BSidesLV) and August 9-12 (DEF CON).

Although I’m in management and oversee the boring things in InfoSec like audits and compliance, I'm a technical manager with years of systems and security administration experience and continue to see myself as a practitioner. That's why I prefer to attend BSidesLV and DEF CON for my annual pilgrimage, with their more engaging and interactive atmosphere and less of a salesy, corporate vibe that I’ve experienced at Black Hat. This will be my sixth consecutive year in the desert, as each year has provided enough value to return the next.

Russell Mosley of ITSP Magazine sat down with John Nye to talk more on this story.
