CynergisTek had Record Year for Revenue, Company Growth & New Services
CynergisTek achieved record growth in 2013, with more than a 300 percent increase in sales and a 275 percent increase from its previous best sales record. The company also added two new executives to its leadership team and several new offerings to its solutions portfolio. CynergisTek, which celebrated ten years of being incorporated in December, attributes recent growth to increased demand for privacy and security compliance services in response to heightened regulatory requirements for healthcare providers and vendors that provide information services to the healthcare sector. Customers are also anticipating expanded enforcement of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules in wake of the new Omnibus Rule, as well as the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) audit programs, which require provider organizations to demonstrate compliance or risk costly penalties.
To meet growing market demand, CynergisTek increased its workforce by more than 30 percent in 2013, adding two key members to its leadership team: David Holtzman, Esq., former senior advisor to OCR on health IT and the HIPAA Security Rule, as vice president of privacy and security compliance services; and Melissa Stice Larson, former senior IT auditor for Ascension Health and the Catholic Health Audit Network, as vice president of audit compliance services. Further bolstering its cadre of legal experts, CynergisTek also added Erin McMillan, Esq. as a compliance consultant, where she specializes in privacy policies, processes and procedures.
“At CynergisTek, we’re committed to equipping provider organizations with a powerful combination of practical solutions, expert guidance and seasoned knowledgeable consulting that they can rely on to confidently run their business amidst today’s increasingly complex compliance challenges,” said Dr. Mike Mathews COO, CynergisTek. “Our continued success over the past decade and in the last year specifically, is a testament to the unparalleled team we’ve built and their hard work in serving our clients.”
In 2013, CynergisTek collaborated with its existing and new partners to expand its suite of tools, technology and services that help providers and vendors properly safeguard protected health information (PHI) and demonstrate HIPAA compliance. New partner solutions announced in 2013 include:
- Iatric Systems – Proactive patient privacy auditing and incident risk management
- SecureLink – Manages and limit Business Associate (BA) access to internal systems
- Wombat Security Technologies – Interactive and effective cyber security phishing assessments and training
- Comply Assistant – Manages third party risk and compliance
CynergisTek also launched new audit services this year to help providers keep pace with increased enforcement efforts by OCR and CMS. CynergisTek’s new audit services, OCR Mock Audit, OCR Audit Readiness Exercise and Meaningful Use Mock Audit, identify compliance deficiencies, assess audit readiness and prepare staff, and have been very well received by the market.
“My work at OCR, where my colleagues and I developed and implemented today’s Privacy and Security Rule regulations, provided me with a unique perspective on compliance and enforcement that I look forward to sharing with CynergisTek’s clients,” said Holtzman. “The opportunity to work alongside healthcare organizations as they improve their security and privacy programs while navigating through the complex regulatory landscape is truly the best of both worlds and very exciting.”
“Like David, the opportunity to take what I have learned with the State of Texas and Ascension Health to assist CynergisTek clients across the country, as well as work with this team is extremely rewarding. I also look forward to contributing to expansion of CynergisTek’s audit services,” said Larson.
CynergisTek also participated in or provided more than a hundred educational sessions around the country in 2013, continuing its tradition of providing training and awareness on healthcare compliance, privacy and security topics, as well as contributed to more than two hundred online articles, blogs and periodicals. “We have always had a culture of education and knowledge sharing with our clients and the industry,” said Mac McMillan, CEO, “It’s how we try to give back to the people and organizations that have done so much for us. We look forward to a great 2014 and our next decade in healthcare.”
