CynergisTek CEO Mac McMillan and Texas Health Resources CIO Edward Marx will present, “Selecting the Right Chief Information Security Officer and Ensuring an Effective Information Security Program” at Becker’s Hospital Review 6th Annual Meeting, taking place in Chicago from May 7th through May 9th.

This presentation will address how the healthcare industry is facing the most sophisticated and dedicated threats it has seen in more than three decades when HIPAA was first conceived. Operational, environmental and criminal threats have collided to present the most complex landscape of risks to date for provider organizations. Factors such as the rapid increase in data sharing, digitalization of information, automation of key business processes, networking of assets, web enablement of applications, exponential growth of remote devices, outsourcing, offshoring, hosting, consumerization and cloud services have created a greater need for increased knowledge and experience in the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) role. As a result, hospital CIOs and CEOs are making it a priority to hire an experienced and effective CISO. Many organizations are learning that it is difficult to find a CISO that has the necessary tenure in privacy, compliance, security and healthcare IT. In this presentation Marx will share his experience in selecting an appropriate CISO and how together they have developed an effective information security program. McMillan will review the current security threat landscape and provide practical insight on what CIOs and CEOs should look for in a CISO.
